How it works
Carbon dioxide is colourless, odourless, non-flammable and non-conductive, and leaves no residue after discharge, so it does not damage materials or equipment.
CO₂ is about 1.5 times heavier than air. On discharge it lowers the oxygen level in the area to the point where combustion cannot continue, and the fire goes out.
Where these belong
- Computer rooms and server rooms
- Hospitals and office buildings
- Electronics stores
- Production lines with machinery
Precautions — keep it in the shade, away from heat and away from cookers, andnever touch the horn during discharge or immediately afterwards — it becomes cold enough to injure skin.
The discharge range is only 1.5–2 m, so you have to get much closer to the fire than with other types. It should not be used in a closed room with people in it, because the oxygen level drops.
